Sandra Fettingis and Sandi Calistro collaborated at Street Wise 2022 to create the mural “Dream Weaver,” which beautifully integrates the artists’ distinct styles.
Sandi paints in her dreamy illustrative and naturalistic style while Sandra contributes her abstract and geometric visual language to create a mural that emphasizes the healing power of nature. Orange flowers and green leaves spring from the finger of a woman who represents the divine feminine. Another orange flower rests seemingly within the woman’s body while a bird rests in her lush brown hair. Geometric patterns weave throughout the mural, branching off of the naturalistic flora and fauna.
The divine feminine is the feminine energy found within all individuals regardless of gender that represents intuition, feeling, creativity, and interconnectedness, as opposed to masculine energy exemplified by action, logic, structure, and domination. Mother Nature or Mother Earth commonly embodies the divine feminine. In “Dream Weaver,” the divine feminine figure brings to life the natural world before the viewer’s eyes.
After the many tragedies and hardships faced by the Boulder community over the last few years, this mural serves as a reminder to take advantage of the wonderful natural beauty that surrounds us. Finding solace in nature heals individuals and improves mental health, ultimately benefitting the community as a whole.
